Loved it. Tamara is a human working towards being a diplomat and gets an internship with the Azellian Embassy, working with the enigmatic Azellian Ambassador, Merran. Humans have been to Azelle, but few Azellian's have been allowed on Earth. Now there is a new pilot program, promoted by Ambassdor Merran, to bring 4 Azellian exchange students to the local university for the first time ever. As Tamara gets close to the 4 alien students (and the Ambassador) secrets about her past come to light that will change everything.

At first I thought the aliens were too "human," but as the story progresses the more their differences are brought to light, both biological and cultural, which I really enjoyed. I only wished we knew a bit more about the aliens, maybe seeing Tamara go to Azelle, but hopefully that will come about in future books in the series.

<spoilers>

Tamara eventually ends up in a relationship with 2 guys (all about her--no m/m) so if that is not your thing then you may want to skip this one. However, I'd still recommend it since the relationships were really well done.

Alawahea The Azellian Affairs Book One eBook Sara L Daigle Reviews

It was a worthwhile and enjoyable read. I look forward to follow-on books.
Wow! Fantasy intermingled with a palpable sense of possibility. While totally entertaining, this first book in the series introduces the reader to a new world full of new ideas about humans and other beings. The characters are established in a way they seem familiar but different, and yet their motives and feelings resonate. Looking forward to book two....what's gonna happen next?
I first picked up this book and was unsure if I would like it, but it ended up being fantastic. She built a story that encompassed great politics and world building along with a little romance. I sure hope a second book is on the way because I would love to find out what happens next! If you like sci-fi at all I would recommend this book.

Now I might go and read it again 😊
The story line is good and I enjoyed the main characters however it seemed like we needed more depth to the males. Their relationship seemed to be awkward and hard to be comfortable with as I felt so distanced from the guys. I will still be buying the next in the series. Need to know what happens.
I thoroughly enjoyed the finally published version of Sara's book. As you can see, we have the same last name - we were friends first and then I married her cousin. So I may be a little biased in favor of the author. ;) But this book is much different from the version she was working on years ago when we got together every week to write, brainstorm, and watch movies. Sara put several twists in to the plot and I especially enjoyed the addition of a court case. Anyone looking for a good romance with some background drama will delight in this book as much as I have. I can't wait for the others in the series!
A wonderful story that I have read three times now! Each time I read it, I enjoy it more. Very well developed, believable characters that hint at more to come, that there is much more to each of them. The story moves through both character and cultural differences that inspire opening up to new possibilities. The off-planet people and culture don't feel "alien" at all yet imply a richness of experience and living that could enhance the human experience mightily. I impatiently await the next book. Please note when I bought the paperback copy, there was a notice that it would take 2-5 weeks to receive; I received my copy in less than a week. A couple of friends also told me they got their copies in less than a week, too. So don't let that "warning" deter your purchase.
I really enjoyed Alawahea and am anxiously awaiting the sequel. JRR Tolkien once said that it's easy to create a green sun but it's very difficult to create the world in which it's credible. Sara Dagle does a great job of making Azellian's visit on Earth credible their special powers, traits and mannerisms are consistent throughout the book and much like humans, they have their strengths and often endearing weaknesses. The romance is intertwined with sci fi gracefully, the characters are vibrant and the writing is easy to follow and fun. I devoured Alawahea in a couple of days while on vacation and it was a wonderful and entertaining read. Sara Dagle has been getting a lot of accolades for this book and I think it's very well deserved!
